Climb the royal tower of strategy. Bishopspire is full classical chess against an engine with a temper — castling, en passant, promotion and all — with three difficulty spirits that grow more savage the higher you climb. Casual plays loose and forgiving, Balanced thinks a little deeper, and Savage hunts you through your own moves. Sit on either colour, flip the board when the mood takes you, undo a blunder or two, and watch the captured pieces pile up on the scoreboard. When two humans want the same screen, Two Players mode settles it old-school. Promotion lets you choose your queen, rook, bishop or knight, and the game calls check, checkmate, stalemate, fifty-move draws, threefold repetition and insufficient material exactly when it should. Original and exclusive to Gameverse, with the spire that does not forgive the careless.

Tips & Strategies

• 1Control the four central squares and the bishop pair will write you letters of recommendation. A pawn in the centre is worth more than a bishop on the rim, so build your structure before you go hunting.
• 2Before every capture, ask who is watching. The engine will happily hang its queen as bait if your recapture lets it skewer your king along the open file - count the defenders and keep your pieces protected.
• 3Savage thinks three moves deep and punishes every loose pawn. Push only when you mean it: a passed pawn is a promotion waiting to happen, but a pushed pawn is a hole your rival will live in.
• 4Castle early, but never through fire. Kingside castling tucks your king away in three moves - if the squares you need are attacked, keep the king home until the danger passes.
• 5Endgames are won by the active king. With few pieces left, walk your king forward and let it support the pawns - the extra king move is worth more than any subtlety the middlegame offered.
